The landscapes of Bulgaria are one of Europe’s last undiscovered treasures. Our landscape painting holiday courses are held in an intimate agricultural and pastoral valley
in the Pirin Mountains of Southern Bulgaria. Located at a height of 1000 metres, the valley is surrounded on all sides by three mountain ranges, each with its own distinctive character: the majestic Pirin range, the extensive Rila and the gentle and mystical Rhodope, home to the Orpheus of Greek mythology.
The unique geography of the region results in very beautiful and continually changing atmospheric effects, offering the landscape-painter a wonderful array of expressive
opportunities.
Our art holidays will be running between May and September. You can choose either a one or two week holiday. There is time to get to know and understand your new environment, to decide what really interests you, to experiment and perhaps try new techniques, or develop your favourite medium so that you feel your work has really progressed.
Jonathan your resident tutor with many years teaching experience and a respected professional
artist will provide talks and demonstrations and the atmosphere is friendly and supportive, helping both advanced practitioners and complete beginners.
The holiday includes instruction and workshops, with people doing as much or as little painting and drawing as they wish. Workshops are usually in the mornings and cover approaches to painting such as choosing a subject, ways of seeing, composition, aspects of abstraction, as well as technical demonstrations such as preparing surfaces and techniques.
The workshops are adapted to the needs of the group or individual requests. The approach is relaxed and informal and the tutor creates an individual programme of artistic activity and learning for each of the guests. Visitors on the art holiday will find new subjects to paint and continue to develop their skills and techniques or maybe try something new or more ambitious.
